James Edwin Jones was b. 12 October 1794 in Surry County, North Carolina;[1] died 22 November 1872 in Dallas County, Missouri. m. ca. 1815 Ailee Bills born 17 June 1795 in Surry, North Carolina, the daughter of Gershom Bills of Marshall County, Tennessee (Jodie Clifton). She d. 14 May 1863 in Dallas County, Missouri. They are both buried in the Marlin Cemetery in Webster County, Missouri.

The first record for James Jones in Maury County occurred on the 15 February 1820 Josiah Alexander of Maury County sold to James Jones of same a paracel of land containing 50 acres for $350.00. Wit: Garsham Bills and D.G (or J.) Bills.[2] James was enumerated in Maury County, Tennessee in 1830, p. 352 with 1 male under 5, [Solomon B.] 1 male 5-10, [Garsham] 2 males 10-15 [Lemuel F., Edwin C.], 1 male 30-40 [James]; 1 female under 5, [Sarah] 1 female 5-10 [?], 2 females 10-15 [Susanna, [?] 1 female 30-40. [Ailee]
James Jones was enumerated as head of household in Polk County in 1840, p. 170 in Washington Twp. This area later became Dallas County. He was listed with 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 40-50; 2 females under 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40. He was living near Thomas and Spencer Marlin, Lemuel Jones (who had two males 20-30—was one of these James B.? see below), and the Henson family.
In 1850 he was head of household in Dallas County, #507, a farmer worth $650. He was 57 years old, b. North Carolina, Aley, age 55 b. North Carolina, Eli W., age 14 b. Tennessee and Mary Maddox, age 19 b. Tennessee.
James Jones left a will in Dallas County dated 27 July 1871 in which he left to son Eli W. the home track which was theN½ of the NW¼ in Section 17, Township 32 of Range 17. He named his daughter Susannah C., wife of Richard Vincent, deceased, who was to have $200 and asked that the remainder of his estate be equally distributed among his children Lemuel Jones, Edwin C. Jones, Garsham B. Jones, Polly Ann wife of David M. Jameson, Sarah M., widow of James F. Randles, deceased, Parilee, widow of Sidney Clifton, deceased. He named his son Garsham B. Jones as his Executor. The will was proved 30 November 1872.[3]

I. Lemuel F. Jones b. ca. 1816 in North Carolina {1850 census} d. June 1900 in McLennan, Texas m. (1) Sarah J. Moore (2) Pheobe V. Herd. He was a Captain the Confederate Army and Representative to the Missouri Legislature from Webster County.
ii. Susanna C. Jones b. 6 June 1817 d. 30 August 1893 bur. Marlin Cemetery m. Richard Vincent who served in the Confederate Army. He was dead by 1871.
iii. Edwin Chaffee Jones b. ca. 1819? He m. 1 January 1840 in Polk County Mary Ann Henson, daughter of John and Catharine Henson [see their entry]. Edwin resided in Hot Springs, Arkansas and served in the Confederate Army. By 1865, he was living in Lamar County, Texas where he administered his mother-in-law’s estate.[4]

v. Solomon B. Jones b. 13 August 1825 d. 10 March 1841 bur. Marlin Cemetery, Webster County, Missouri.
vi. Sarah M. Jones b. 19 Feb 1829 d. 10 February 1909 bur. Marlin Cemetery m. (1) possibly a McConnell (2) James F. Randles (3) [-?-] Sharp. She died in Springfield, Greene County Missouri at her home on Missouri and Kearney Street. She left two sheets of paper which constituted her will and named daughters Alcie Woolard and M.M. Minnett and son James L. Randles of Pierce County, Washington. Sarah is buried under the name of Randles.

viii. Mary Ann (Polly) Jones b. ca. 1831 Tennessee m. (1) [-?-] Maddox. She was living with her family in 1850, apparently a young widow. m. David M. Jameson and moved to Texas.
ix. Elizabeth Paralee Jones b. 2 October 1832 (now) Marshall County, Tennessee d. 4 June 1890. bur. Marlin Cemetery. m. Sidney Clifton.
x. Eli Wash Jones b. 26 November 1836 in (now) Marshall County, Tennessee d. 12 June 1903 bur. Marlin Cemetery. m. 6 September 1856 in Dallas county, Ann Eliza Campbell b. 10 May 1840 d/o George W. Campbell.
