Henry Dillon’s will in Henry Co., Virginia: Wife Mary to have all estate-real and personal during her natural life. Named three daughters Phebe, Susannah, who if they were not married at the death of his wife could occupy the plantation and Manor. Sons Carter, Henry and William, at wife's death, and after marriage or death of daughters the 840 acres to be equally divided. Also to my daughter Mary now married to Joseph Carter Dillon, Slaves could be sold as the legatees wanted to make equal division among children to wit; Carter Dillon, Henry Dillen, William Dillen, Polly Dillen, wife of William Dillen, Phebe Dillen, Mary Dillen, wife of Joseph Carter Dillen, Ann Cook, Susanah Dillard, Sarah Dillon. 8 May 1797(?) last number cut off.  Mary and John Dillen Exrs. Wit: Wm. Health, John Salmon, Hezekiah Salmon. Pvd. 26 March 1798. Codicil written Oct. 1797 against contesting will. [No slave Phillis mentioned in will. However, the inventory mentioned negro woman Cloe and child Phillis. (or Philip) Will 1:292

1803 Jacob Burris m. in Henry Co. Virginia Ruth Dillon. No surety given. p. 8

1809 Smith Co. Tenn. Daniel Hammack sold 400 acres to Jacob Burres. (He is still there in 1830) a male 70-80 years.

22 Nov. 1810 Phebe Dillen relinquished all right and title to a tract 276 acres devised by father Henry Dillen dec. unto Henry Dillen Jr. by his last will and test. Wit: George Waller, Jr. Brett Stovall and John Salmon. She signed with X. Deed Book 7:301

1812 William Martin sold land to Jacob Burrus in Smith Co. Tennessee.

1813 Jacob Burres of Henry Co. VA called to War of 1812; sold negro Phillis to Phebe Dillen.

          14 July 1813 George Burres of Henry Co. to Michael Burrus Sr. of same lease for term of Michaels' natural life and during the life of his wife, Letty, a tract known as Gunnel's place as is now cleared and occupied...with full privilege to remove timber for the consideration of $1.00. Wit: Peter Scales.

          Tax list: 1813-1814 George and Jacob Burrus; 1815 Michael comes on but Jacob is gone. 1816 Michael, Goerge and John. Next to John was a Burwell Bassett, deceased. In 1817 Jacob Burrass of Phebe Dillen 1 white, 2 slaves, 3 horses. Next door was Phebe Bassett. Phebe Dillen had appeared in the D's in 1816 with 1 white poll, 2 blacks and 2 horses.

 

1817   Jacob Burres taxed in Henry Co. as “of Phebe Dillen” with white poll, 1 slave and 3 horses. Not mentioned thereafter.

          Mastin Burris had child Burrell W. born in Tennessee

21 Feb 1817  Phebe Dillen to John Redd. She was of Henry Co. when she released to Redd all right and title to the 807 acres that she could live on equally with her two sisters. One has died; the other has married. Land was bounded by John Bailey, land formerly belonged to Henry Lyme, land on waters of Jordan Creek. Wit: John King, Charles C. Bailey, John Baley, Mastin P ---rico. (cannot decipher) Deed 8:235

1825 One Martin Burris m. 15 May 1825 Elizabeth Maxwell in Wayne County KY.

1826 Mastin Burris entered 160 acres in Hiwassee District, McMinn Co.

1827 Martin Burris entered 160 acres in McMinn Co.

September 1828 Martin Burris called for jury duty in McMinn Co.

April 1827 Lawrence Co. Tennessee Mastin Burris appointed overseer.

Oct. 1827 Chancery Court, Smith Co. TN Jacob Burrus and Susannah his wife filed complaint.

1830 Mastin Burris in Cole Co Missouri. Andrew and ? there on same census.

1831 Jacob Burrus of Smith Co. Tenn. sold to daughter Matilda Hammock a negro girl. In 1830 he sold land to William T. Burrus.

1847 Mastin Burris died in Miller Co.

 

VIRGINIA

In 1817 Phebe Dillen 1 white, 2 slaves, 3 horses. Next door was Phebe Bassett. Phebe Dillen had appeared in the D's in 1816 with 1 white poll, 2 blacks and 2 horses.

Deed Book 12:550 13 Feb. 1843 Chattle mortgage with Jesse Wottann. Phebe mortgaged personal property including livestock and furniture for a $96.00 debt owned Wooten. Signed with X.

Henry  County VA 7:435  On 11 Sept. 1813 Jacob Burres being called "to perform a tour of duty in defence of my country" and whereby Pheobe Dillen has bound herself with me to pay money, I do bargain and sell to Pheobe a negro girl Phillis and her daughter Rachel to secure her [the note.] Wit: Edmund Waller and Marie Waller.
