Peter Neal, Sr. b. 1770 d. before 10 September 1840 when Peter, Jr. calls him deceased.  

            i.          Jesse Neal b. ca. 1792 in Tennessee d. 1852 in Polk Co.

            iii.        Peter Neal Jr. m. Tellitha McCubbin b. 1775 d/o Zachariah and Sarah (Lane) McCubbin.

 

            On 10 Sept. 1840 Peter Neal appointed [his son?] Madison Neal his attorney to buy and sell land for him and collect his accounts. He then sold land to John Mason land that began at a corner of Peter Neil's, deceased, land bounded by old ground formerly Jesse Neil's but now John Mason's. Wit: Reuben Mason and Madison Neal. Claiborn Co. Tennessee Book O p. 153. 

            Deed Book R p. 283 9 March 1843  Shelby Co. Illinois Peter Neil appointed [his brother-in-law] Wm. McCubbin his attorney to sell land containing 140 acres. Wit: John Neil and Madison Neil.

                        c.         John Neil of Shelby Co. Illinois appointed his brother Madison Neil of Claiborn Co. Tennessee his lawful attorney to demand from estate all legally due from grandmother Sally McCubbins late of the county of --- in Illinois, deceased which funds are in the hands of William Graham of Claiborn Co. Tennessee. Shelbyville 16 July 1837.  [Claiborn Deed Book M p. 272] 

            In 1833, Landon's Neil's deed to Reuben Rose states that relationship: On 28 September 1833 Landon Neil of Claiborn County, Tennessee to Reuben Rose of same. Whereas Telitha McCubbins d/o Zachariah McCubbins of said County intermarried with Peter Neil of said county and had three children now are living amongst where said Landon Neil is one; and whereas Telletha Niel is since dead leaving Landon and two others heirs of their grandfather Zachariah McCubbins and whereas an inquisition of lunacy was held and Zachariah is possessed of land to which Landon is heir to 1/3 in stead of his mother subject to dower interest of Saray (Sally) MCubbins, wife of Zachariah. Landon now sells his 1/3 interest to Reuben Rose for $65.00.[1] 

Landon “Neel” was listed in Grainger county, Tennessee, p. 369 with 1 male 20-30, 1 female 15-20.  He was on the same page as Hezekiah Rook and the Mallicoats. But who were the other two men who share his interest in the McCubbin estate?  

Zachariah McCubbin b. 1752 in Baltimore County, Maryland s/o William and Eleanor McCubbins d. 1834 in Claiborn Co. Tennessee m. 1772 in Washington Co. Virginia[2] Sarah Lane. She was b. 1754 in Lunenberg County, Virginia d/o John and Elizabeth (Cloud) Lane.[3] She had died by 1837 probably in Illinois. She was a member of the Big Spring Baptist Church in Claiborn County.

            i.          William McCubbin - Book K p. 303  On 21 December 1829 Zachariah McCubbins to Wm. McCubbins for $100 30 acres near Wallen Ridge adjoining Zachariah McCubbin. Book K p. 306 On 7 April 1834 William McCubbin of Claiborn Co. sold to Reuben Rose of same for $285.00 all right and title to deceased father Zachariah McCubbin's property as heir at law.  

            ii.         John McCubbin - Book I p. 432 On 19 Jan. 1829 Zachariah McCubbin to John McCubbins for $200 John is to oversee, superintend and do for and take good care of Zachariah and his wife Sally McCubbin during their natural lives and to keep them in their possession dwelling houses and every other convenience. In return he received a parcel on the Kentucky road bounded by John Hoges and Hugh Graham, Posey's line and land formerly Samuel Lusk's and John Dodson's now Chrismaus L. Dobbs.  

            iii.        Ellenor McCubbin p. 342 5 September 1833 Nathaniel McNabb and wife Ellenor daughter of Sarah (Sally) and Zachariah McCubbin sold for $205.00 to Reuben Rose their 1/9 right to estate of Zachariah.  

            iv.        Mary McCubbins m. Henry Baker; living 1834 in Henry County, Kentucky

Claiborn Co. Tennessee Book G p. 35 22 Oct. 1818 Grimes Neal of Lea County, Virginia to Reuben Rose of Claiborn Co. for $800 sold a tract of land adjoining Baker Graham; also a town lot in Tazwell.

 Claiborn Co. Tennessee Deed Book I

p. 162 Zachariah McCubbin leased to Reuben Rose for ten years a parcel of land containing 50 acres on the Kentucky road.  He reserved for himself a cabin on the property. Rose was to clear the land and fence 5 acres of the property. 20 Oct. 1829. 

p. 245 16 Aug. 1830 Zachariah McCubbin sold for $40 to Reuben Rose a parcel situated at Wallen ridge on north side where Peter Peck formerly lived containing 5 acres.

Book K p. 307 31 March 1834 Sally McCubbin, widow, sold to Reuben Rose for $300 all interest and right of “dowry” in the estate of Zachariah McCubbins. 

Book K p. 344 17 June 1834 Henry Baker and Mary his wife of Henry County, Kentucky; John Neil, John McCubbins, Leah Armstrong, formerly McCubbins, John Hodges and Sarah his wife, formerly McCubbins; John Carr and Dorcas, his wife; formerly McCubbins; and Madison Neal quit claimed to Reuben Rose for $2000 all right to 280 acres belonging to Zachariah McCubbins, deceased.  Madison Neil and John Neil are sons of Caty Neil, wife of Peter Neil who was daughter of Zachariah McCubbins.  

Book M, p. 112 19 November 1836 William McCubbins of Edgar County, Illinois gave power of attorney to John F. Huddleston of Grainger co. to pay all money owed to me to my wife Phebe McCubbins.  

Peter Jr. married [Caty?] Telitha McCubbins. By her, he had three children who survived to 1834: Landon (b. 1810), Madison and John.  John, Madison and Peter moved to Shelby Co. Illinois.  Spencer & Landon joined their uncle, Jesse, in Missouri.  

Spencer Neil may have been Landon's half-brother and the male with Peter, Jr. on the 1830 census of Claiborn Co.  He would not have been entitled to inherit from the McCubbin estate if he was by a second wife.  

Peter Neil, Jr., p. 140 Claiborn Co. 1830: 1 male under 5, 2 males 15-20, [Spencer? John?] 1 male 20-30 (Madison) 1 male 40-50; 2 females under 5, 2 female 5-10, 1 female 40-50.  

Claiborn County Deed Book K, p. 121-123 28 September 1833 Landon Neil of Claiborn County, Tennessee to Reuben Rose of same.
