Dec. 5, 1895: The re-interment of the remains of the late Maj. George R. Kirtley in the Confederate Cemetery at Springfield, MO, calls up a story full of romance and interest. He was killed near Hartville, MO Jan 11, 1863. He [sic] body was buried near where he fell, and  none of his relatives, save Cyrus H. Kirtley, knew the spot that marked his resting place. Rev. J.S. Kirtley, pastor of the Delmar Avenue Baptist Church, a son of the deceased soldier, attended the re-interment. Maj. Kirtley was a native of KY, but shortly after his marriage emigrated to Saline co. MO. At the beginning of the war, his family of J.S. and six other children. His widow now resides at Arlanger, KY [Long, interesting article]"
