m. Margaret McKiney daughter of John McKiney of Orange Co., Virginia (McKiney's will dated 1751) Lived on Stewart's Creek in Surry Co. NC. Estate settled 1799. Lists legatees.  Widow died 1822.

            i.          John Creed. Administrator of father's estate. 1790 Surry Co. NC census. m. Rebecca who m. (2) Hugh Moore before 1818. John owned land in Surry Co. and Patrick Co Virginia. He moved to Hawkins Co. died before 1807. Deed Book 3:90 Patrick Co Virginia.

North Carolina Deed Book R:325-326 Just says "State of Kentucky" to sell 1/5 part of my father, Matthew Creed’s estate. Wit: S. Graves and Samuel Gordon, Jrat. Recorded Nov. 1823 term. He had returned to Surry by 1820 and was living alone over 45.

                        Bartlett was listed on the 1810 census in Surry County with 1 male under 10, 1 male over 45; 2 females under 10, 3 females 10-16, 2 females 16-26.

            v.         Matthew Creed m. Elizabeth [-?-]. He was living in Surry County in 1820, but in Wilkes by 1830. Children listed in Deed Book I:345-347.

Petition in February of 1824. Petitioners: Jonathan Roberts and William Herrin state that Roberts purchased from Bartlett, Mathew and Colby Creed their undivided right and that William Herrin purchased from Thornton Creed, the sole heir of Oswald Creed his undivided right which now entitles petitioners to four undivided shares. They now hold this as tenants in common with the heirs of John Creed who are entitled to one share. Notification to come forth. Advertised in Raleigh Register.

Surry Co. S p. 471-472 16 August of 1826 Cleon and Margaret Moore of Hawkins Co. Tennessee quit claimed their right to land of John Creed, deceased.

Telitha Creed married Peter Kimberlin 13 July 1820 in Henry Co., Kentucky Father: Bartlett Creed.

Mrs. Elizabeth Creed is of age and I and family are willing that you, Rowland Thomas, issue John W. Lynce license. 4 Feb. 1822 George Herring Att: T.L Herring and Henry Herring.

                                                                   Bennett Creed

            A family group sheet, placed in the Family History Library Archives[1] led to the will of Bennett Creed preserved in Surry County, North Carolina Will Book B, p. 125. This will was dated 28 May 1816 and named grandson Abraham, son of son Colby, deceased; Robert, Abraham and John. The family is more fully defined when the executors sold the real estate belonging to Bennett Creed: On 19 February 1818, Robert Creed and John Creed, Executors of the last will and testament of Bennet Creed sold to Bennet Creed, Robert Creed, John Simms, Matthew Creed, William Moore, Matthew Sims and John Creed of Surry County North Carolina a parcel of land which was “in obedience” to the last will and testament of Bennet Creed the lands of Bennet Creed, deceased.[2]

            Additional information was found for the Creed family in Surry County. On 13 March 1818 Colby Creed of Surry County sold to Drury Kiersey of same for $2000.00 450 acres. Colby signed his name. Wit: Thos A. Word and Jonathan Dover.[3] It appears that Colby left the county at that time.

Children of Bennett Creed:

i.          Colby Creed b. ca. 1784 m. 1809 in Surry County, North Carolina Rebecca Moore.[4] He is said to have died in the War of 1812 leaving a son, Abraham. Colby must have been alive in 1816, but was dead by 1818 when the lots were divided. No one named Abraham inherited.

ii.         Robert Creed b. ca. 1786 On 18 August 1828 Robert S. Creed of Surry sold to John Sims of Surry for $400 a tract which was the first and second lots n the division and contained 22 acres.[5] 

iii.        John Creed b. ca. 1794 On 31 January 1827 John Creed of Surry Co. sold to John Sims for $62.00½ cents a tract of land containing 11 acres being the seventh lot in the divition[sic] between the heirs of Bennet Creed, Sr. deceased. Wit: Charles Dudley and George M. Anderson.[6]

iv.        Bennett Creed - m. Mary (Polly) Moore.[7] Bennett and died ca. 1828. On 12 March 1820 for $150.00 Bennet Creed transferred to Robert Creed the land which had belonged to the estate of his father. Wit: John Creed, Jurat. Signed by Bennet Creed and Robert S. Creed.[8] 

v.         Franky Creed b. ca. 1796 m. Surry Co. NC 23 Oct. 1814 (bond) John Sims.

vi.        Matthew Creed-On 29 January 1827 Matthew Creed of Wilkes County, NC sol to John Simms of Surry Co. for $125.00 a tract of 11 acres “being the fourth lot in the divition[sic] between the heirs of Bennet Creed, Sr.  Wit: John Zachary, Jonathan Roberts. In 1820 Matthew was listed in Wilkes Co. NC p. 39 James was there on p. 26. In 1830, there was a Robert Creed, Elizabeth and James, all on p. 335.

Estate of Bennet Creed was divided into seven lots:

            Most of the family members left after selling land to their brother-in-law, John Sims. On 2 May 1815 John Creed of Surry Co. NC and Robert Creed of same for $400 sold land on a branch in the fork of Buck Creek containing 100 acres to Thomas A. Word and Drury Keirsey.  On  8 Jan. 1816 Bennet Creed of Surry Co. sold to Robert Creek of same for $92.00 land on both sides of Burch Creek containing 92 acres. Wit: Thos A. Word and Bennett Creed, Jr. [9]
